Since the lockdown in London hit back in early 2020, gyms have had to close, and keeping fit has become much more of a struggle. The inability to go out for a daily jog, or play sport, has had an effect on both our mental and physical health. However, Stance doesn’t believe that lockdown should stop us, but rather, it gives us an opportunity to find new and better ways to maintain our fitness.
As such, the job was to design, from scratch, a model and design for a multi-purpose home based gym equipment, with capabilities for multiple movements to hit nearly all muscle groups. On top of this, the design needed to communicate a sense of luxury, but also robustness and strength, motivating people to improve their fitness at home.
Stance is a gym equipment startup aiming to produce an all inclusive home gym, embodied in one product. this was a piece of contracting work, to help them design a first version prototype for an investment pitching porfolio.
The design is a smart gym system, which adapts routines and workouts to each user, based on their weight progression, weight goals, and also workout difficulty.

The stance D-Handles also have an embedded sensor system. These come as individual rechargeable units which slot into the sides of the handles. This collection of sensors help Stance personalise workouts and push users to greater heights and reach their goals.
The design also includes a retractable front panel which disguises and hides the arms of the device when not in use. This is a crucial part of the design as a luxurious piece of gym equipment should almost not look like gym equipment, but rather a piece of art or design, decorating and adding aesthetics to the room.
To fully illustrate the functionality of the product and how a user would interact with it, I created a few user interfaces, showing progress reports, recommended workouts, and more.
