A solo project during my 2019 Summer PAId internship at The Magic of Things, the Plasma pyramid is a simple interactive device which people on opposite sides of a table can switch on and off using magic wands, which can now be found in The Cauldron New York!

A short video showing the interaction with the Plasma Pyramid!

This was a one month project towards the end of the internship which utilised laser cutting, electronics, compact design, to create a pseudo sealed battery powered interactive and also magical product.

The product relies on a simple PCB which is powered by a 12V supply, battery or from a transformer. This PCB has been specifically coded to activate a relay of 12V which in turn toggles the plasma ball itself. The plasma pyramid sometimes will also not turn off due to some interference from the 12V ball itself. To overcome this, simply touch the plasma ball, and your magic wand should do the trick!

The plasma pyramid is compact with everything secured to the structure, including all wires and items inside. There is an access hatch built into the product if repairs need to be made.

General Internship Overview

Throughout the internship I worked very often with 2 laser cutters, and was in charge of them and the production line of many products being shipped to New York, Edinburgh and also Dublin. I was also part scrum master in charge of scrum method meetings during my time at the magic of things, helping me learn more about organisation. The internship also utilised coding knowledge with C+ and some python, as well as CAD and robust product design. I was also in charge of making and repairing existing products at the London Dalston Kingsland venue “The Cauldron”.
